The Company
Banana Tree opened their first restaurant in London over 30 years ago, offering authentic Asian food with fiery flavours and warm, welcoming service. Now, with 22 restaurants across the country, they’re transporting their guests to the corners of Southeast Asia through taste and tantalising interiors.
According to Banana Tree, “Nothing says adventure like a Laksa lunch, a weekend Katsu or a dash of Vietnamese fish sauce in your dinner.” Their food takes you places, and their flavoursome, vibrant cuisine is reflected in their bright, maximalist restaurants.
The Project
This summer saw the opening of Banana Tree’s latest restaurant in Cardiff. Right in the heart of St David’s, just a short walk from Cardiff Central station and the buzz of Queen Street, the newest Banana Tree brings the bold, vibrant flavours of Southeast Asia to Wales’s capital city.
According to Wales Online, Helen Morgan, centre director of St David’s Cardiff, said: "Banana Tree is an excellent addition to our variety of restaurants here at St David’s, and the new venue will be an exciting place for guests to dine, offering not just tasty dishes but a truly unique experience."

And that unique experience needed stand-out commercial furniture. Eclipse worked with the design team at the Big Table Group, owners of Banana Tree restaurants, to complement the eclectic, Asian influenced interiors. Our popular stock Tavo dining chairs and bar stools were mixed with custom versions of the industrially inspired seating. A stunning jungle-patterned fabric was used across the back of Tavo chairs in red, and also for the fixed seating throughout the restaurant.
The Result
The newly opened Banana Tree Cardiff is a veritable feast of colour, pattern, and texture. The mix of natural elements such as the sculptural wicker pendant lights, warm wooden tables, and abundance of greenery is juxtaposed by the carefully designed clash of rich jewel tones and vibrant imagery.
The restaurant interior is fun and eminently Instagrammable, and like their food, it ‘takes you places’. There have already been some great Google reviews from satisfied guests…
“The restaurant's ambiance was truly inviting, with warm lighting and comfortable seating arrangements that created a relaxing atmosphere.”
“First time visiting and we all loved it! Loved the atmosphere and decor - it added to the experience.”

FAQs
What furniture was used in the Banana Tree Cardiff interior project?
Eclipse Furniture worked with the design team at Big Table Group to provide commercial-grade contract seating, including standard and custom versions of the industrial-inspired Tavo dining chairs and bar stools. The fit-out featured custom red jungle-pattern upholstery across the chair backs, warm wooden dining tables, and bespoke fixed banquette seating designed to handle high-footfall restaurant traffic.
Can Eclipse Furniture customise standard contract seating for brand-specific interiors?
Yes. Eclipse Furniture offers full customisation across its contract seating ranges, including custom fabric upholstery, bespoke finishes, and custom fixed banquette seating tailored to match unique brand aesthetics and interior design themes.
Where is Banana Tree Cardiff located in St David's?
Banana Tree Cardiff is located in the heart of St David’s shopping centre on Mill Lane, a short walk from Cardiff Central railway station and Queen Street.
Why is commercial-grade furniture essential for high-footfall restaurants like Banana Tree?
Commercial contract furniture is engineered for durability, safety, and stain-resistance in high-traffic hospitality environments. Unlike domestic furniture, contract seating utilises heavy-duty frames and commercial-grade fabrics designed to endure daily cleaning and continuous guest use while maintaining aesthetic appeal.
