The Company
Moto came on the scene back in 2001, and they've just opened the UK's newest Motorway Service Area, Moto Sawtry on the A1(M) at Junction 15.
Gone are the days when a service station was your only option if you needed to use the facilities or purchase an overpriced pasty. Moto pride themselves on providing everything you could need on your daily commute or long journey home. Great food, delicious drinks, and a place to relax and chat or connect to the Wi-Fi for an important work meeting.
The Project
Eclipse Furniture was a natural choice for Moto when they wanted to turn their visions for the Sawtry Service Area into reality. Guy Sterling, design manager for Moto Hospitality worked with the Innovation team at Eclipse to create a space that is modern, inviting, and practical.
Moto wanted a sleeker, contemporary take on their traditional business booths to match the modernised look of the new motorway service area. We suggested crafting the roofs from perforated steel, which was both design-led, and along with the acoustic felt behind the seat, provided a surprising amount of soundproofing.
Moto has a specific brand identity, so a certain look and palette of colours had to be adhered to. We worked with the Moto design team who were thrilled with bespoke elements such as powder-coating and fabric upholstery that were added to stylish stock furniture from Eclipse.
The project was fast paced, with a tight turnaround time, but Eclipse Furniture delivered, and the results are outstanding!
The Result
Moto Sawtry is a great example of what can be achieved when modern design meets purposeful practicality.
The Scandi-inspired commercial furniture is simple yet stylish, and the addition of bespoke metalwork and fabrics gives it brand personality. The light woods are warm and inviting, but make the area feel spacious. The Moto blue can be seen throughout the upholstery on the chairs and fixed seating, as well as on the booths on the mezzanine level, creating the perfect environment for a video call or to get into focus mode.
Overall, Moto Sawtry is an attractive and contemporary space that is definitely worth pulling off the motorway for.
"We worked with Eclipse to furnish the newly opened Moto Sawtry. This included bespoke solutions which have really lifted the space and created a welcoming and practical environment."
